Clinical Skills
Clinical Skills provides an online learning platform that supports healthcare professionals, students, and carers in delivering safe, evidence-based care. Used by over 100 NHS Trusts, universities, and care providers, it offers regularly updated, peer-reviewed modules covering a wide range of clinical procedures.
We were brought on board by Clinical Skills to rebuild and future-proof their platform as part of a broader digital growth strategy. The goal was to improve system scalability, automate key processes, and enable new revenue streams. Their previous platform lacked flexibility, relied on manual administration, and struggled to support growing demand from NHS and educational clients.
Collaborating closely with Clinical Skills’ leadership and editorial team, we delivered a robust, user-friendly Drupal site with e-commerce functionality, streamlined admin tools, and deep integration capabilities, laying the groundwork for sustained growth and innovation.
The client’s primary objectives included:
- Improving user experience and subscriber journeys
We created a responsive, intuitive design that guides users, whether NHS staff, students, or educators, through registration, content access, and assessments with clarity and ease. Each journey was tailored to support both individual and institutional subscribers. - Flexible content and course management
The new Drupal build enables Clinical Skills to independently update modules, manage user accounts, and track access, all within a streamlined admin interface. This flexibility supports quick updates to clinical guidance and tailored institutional packages. - Automating subscriptions and licensing
We introduced e-commerce capabilities with automated enrolment, licence assignment, and renewal tracking. Institutions can now manage their users more efficiently, with significantly reduced admin burden and faster onboarding. - Strengthening product identity and user confidence
The platform now reflects Clinical Skills’ authority in the healthcare sector through improved branding, clearer navigation, and consistent presentation. Peer-reviewed content is showcased more effectively, increasing trust among users and institutions. - Supporting internal efficiency and growth
We consolidated legacy systems into a single, cost-efficient Drupal platform. Key processes such as reporting, licence management, and content updates are now automated or self-serve, freeing up the team to focus on strategic development.
Bespoke Learning Management System development, system redesign, and admin workflow optimisation
Throughout the project, we worked in close collaboration with Clinical Skills’ directors and editorial team. This ensured the build addressed both day-to-day operational needs and long-term business objectives. We took an iterative, feedback-led approach, refining key features and ensuring seamless alignment with internal workflows, compliance requirements, and future product plans.
We placed subscription flows and course access at the heart of the UX, enabling clear pathways for different user types, from self-registered learners to bulk-uploaded NHS accounts. Administrators now have powerful tools to manage licences, track activity, and update content in real time, reducing reliance on manual support.
The result is a scalable, high-performance, bespoke Learning Management System that supports Clinical Skills’ ongoing mission to improve standards of care through accessible, up-to-date clinical learning resources. It offers the flexibility to grow with evolving user needs and the stability to support large-scale institutional partnerships.
