Anti-Slavery International
Anti-Slavery International is the world’s oldest human rights organisation, founded in 1839. As a pioneering charity, it works globally to eliminate all forms of slavery and slavery-like practices, from human trafficking and forced labour to child and early marriage. Through advocacy, campaigns, partnerships and grassroots action, the organisation supports those affected by modern slavery and tackles the root causes that allow it to persist.
We were brought on board to redesign and rebuild Anti-Slavery International’s website to better reflect the impact of their work and to support their digital fundraising and communications efforts. Their previous CMS was outdated and difficult for staff to manage, which limited their ability to update content and adapt to evolving priorities. The website was also not mobile responsive, meaning they were missing out on key engagement opportunities with a growing mobile user base.
Over the course of our partnership, we worked closely with the Anti-Slavery International team to create a fresh, modern, and accessible WordPress site. We focused on enhancing the user experience, empowering internal teams with easy-to-use content tools, and delivering a flexible digital platform that can grow alongside the charity’s mission.
The client’s primary objectives included:
- Improving user experience and accessibility
We designed a bold and intuitive website interface with streamlined navigation and a fully responsive layout that works seamlessly across mobile, tablet, and desktop devices. This ensures users from all backgrounds, including international visitors and supporters, can easily explore content and take action. - Flexible content management
We implemented a modular content editing system in WordPress that allows staff to easily create new pages, add visual content, and adapt layouts using reusable components. This gives the internal team the agility they need to respond to campaigns, news events, and policy changes in real time. - Enhancing fundraising and supporter journeys
Recognising the importance of donations and supporter engagement, we created a dedicated fundraising section with segmented user journeys for individual donors, corporate partners, and grant-giving organisations. Clear calls to action, simplified donation flows, and targeted messaging all contribute to increased conversion rates. - Reinforcing the organisation’s brand and impact
Our creative direction focused on highlighting Anti-Slavery International’s powerful photography, survivor stories, and campaign successes. We ensured the website would not only inform but also inspire users to support the cause. - Streamlining internal workflows
We provided training and documentation to equip the charity’s staff with the skills to manage the site independently. The flexible back-end setup also reduces reliance on external support for day-to-day content changes, helping reduce ongoing costs and improve efficiency.
Personalised supporter journeys and flexible CMS
Our collaboration with Anti-Slavery International was rooted in partnership and transparency. Throughout the project, we held regular feedback sessions to iterate on design and functionality. The result is a site that offers a user-centred journey, from learning about the organisation’s work to making a donation or joining a campaign.
The modular WordPress build empowers staff to tailor content for different supporter groups. Whether addressing corporate donors, journalists, policy-makers or members of the public, the team can easily publish targeted, impactful content without technical support.
The streamlined donation flow and enhanced storytelling also encourage deeper engagement, with visitors staying on the site longer, exploring more pages, and taking meaningful actions such as subscribing, donating, or sharing content.
Project achievements
After the new site launch, Anti-Slavery International saw a notable uplift in engagement and online conversions:
- Time on site increased by 62%
- Bounce rate reduced by 65%
- Conversions (including donations and newsletter signups) increased by more than 200%
- Mobile performance improved significantly, with load times reduced by 45% on average
The website serves as a powerful communications and fundraising tool, enabling Anti-Slavery International to share stories, mobilise supporters, and grow their impact online. We also delivered ongoing technical support, WordPress maintenance, and feature enhancements to ensure the site’s security and strategic evolution.
